The International Network for Human Rights Monitoring participated in Documenting Obscurantism conference in Bern city, Switzerland, represented by the President of the Board of Directors Mr. Ali Abou Dehn .
Mr. Abou Dehn talked about the arbitrary detention in the Syrian prisons, and his personal experience when he was a prisoner in Tadmur prison, which is a well-known prison for its human rights violations and is categorized as one of the worst obscurantist prisons in the world.
Our representative described the types and forms of torture, which do not distinguish between nationalities, identities or even charges of the detainees, the only concern they have is to break the detainees, and this is what was printed in our memory. What you are seeing today of horrifying pictures of detainees died of starvation, torture or by cutting their genitals or tongues is what we will continue to see in the future of torturing, intimidation, terrorism, killing, blood and crimes, as long as we see no action from the United Nations and the major powers, and from the non-government civil society organizations that works to enforce the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to stop the inhuman farce against the Syrian, Lebanese and all other detainees in the obscurantist prisons all over the world.
Mr. AbouDehn transformed his memories of the prison from being individual and personal, to being public, stating that the human rights violations and the situation of the detainees in the Syrian prisons are horrible, and that applies to both the government’s and the armed opposition’s prisons. Most of the violations occurs at the military checkpoints, which are widely spread. Those violations start with insults, or even raping, brutal beating that sometimes leads to death before the person even gets to the military branches or to the armed groups centers, and sometimes they release the person.
Mr. Abou Dehn and by the name of the Network, condemned the infringements and violations of the detainees’ rights and herding them into detention camps and torture cellars, just because they belong to a specific sect, political or zonal party without giving them the right of a trial.
He concluded by saying: what we are hearing about the disappearance of thousands of people in Syria is terrifying. Genocides in Syria are also terrifying and the truth about who is committing those crimes is concealed by the exchange of accusations between the Syrian government and the armed opposition. At the end, those crimes are being committed against the Syrian people by the name of Syria.
