The network member, the Rasid Association for Human Rights, issued a press release on the security incidents in the Ain al-Hilweh camp in Lebanon, which stated:
Rasid Association for Human Rights views with concern the security and humanitarian future of the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp located near the Lebanese city of Sidon. This concern comes in light of the assassinations and intimidation carried out through the ongoing security chaos from time to time, which results in a torrent of bloodshed and continuous intimidation of safe civilians.
Rasid believes that these acts that undermine security are a recurring result of impunity caused by the prevailing consensual security policy within the camp, which divided it into regions and cantons, and led to the disruption of the force of law represented by the legitimate Palestinian institutions and the Lebanese judiciary.
The Rasid Association for Human Rights strongly condemns the physical liquidations and armed clashes, which are considered among the most serious violations of Palestinian human rights and the right to live in safety and peace. It stresses that their recurrence from time to time is due to the policy of protecting criminals and allowing them to escape punishment practiced by the majority of the dominant forces in the camp, which are trying to maintain the security of the camp by eliminating the force of law and replacing it with a policy of (security by consent). The association believes that continuing with this policy may make us sound the alarm bell to everyone in the Palestinian forces and factions and the Lebanese state, to warn against reaching the point of no return from the security and humanitarian aspects.
In light of the seriousness of this matter and its repercussions, we at the Rasid Association for Human Rights hold the national and Islamic factions and forces in the Ain al-Hilweh camp and the Palestinian political leadership at all levels responsible for what is happening, demanding a radical solution to the problem of security chaos and the policies of impunity and security by consent in the camps and placing the peace and security of refugees above any consideration, by establishing the force of law through legitimate Palestinian institutions, and bringing out those outside the law to the Lebanese security services and the Lebanese judiciary.
